3 Question Management | No BS Management Advice

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
I spent a little time exploring Reddit today and stumbled into a wonderful suggestion for managers that I thought I would share.

I’m Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I’m referred to as “The Big Game Hunter . . .”  It started off in my time in recruiting where I used to hunt down leaders and staff for organizations. Now I try and help people play big in the world, in a variety of different ways. That can involve managing and leading, job search, hiring more effectively, . .  . a whole bunch of things I do.

I stumbled into something on Reddit. I don’t look at Reddit all that often but I decided to take an exploration today, I stumbled into a great little piece that I’m going to call “three question management.” And whether this is with a new employee or with an existing employee, you’re going to send them a message making a request of them at the end of each day.

Tell them this is going to take you five minutes. Nothing more. I want you to answer these three questions.

What were the main things you accomplish today?

What were the obstacles you encountered, if any?

Do you have any questions you need answered?

What that does is it gives you a rundown on what people accomplished, quite obviously. And then, from there, what you’re able to do is respond to their questions, and also have a sense of what they’re doing.

Like I said, not a big deal, right? But for you as a manager, whether you’re a new or existing manager, whether you’re leading teams of people, whether you’re leading one person makes no difference. It just keeps you in touch with what’s going on with your people.

Hope you found this helpful.  I’m Jeff Altman. Visit my website, TheBigGameHunter.us. Go exploring there PLUS you can go exploring because, frankly, the blog has thousands of posts that can help you.
