On a stupid Canadian TV show, a mother said to her daughter, “To avoid being single you have to mingle.”

I know what was said about getting married but it’s also true about developing relationships that will help you in your career, too.

You need to connect with people as people for them to want to help you in your career. After all, they have other choices of people that they can go to.

You need to connect with people as people for them to want to hire you for your skill. After all they have other choices.

You need to connect with people for them to get to know, to like, to trust and to respect you. After all, others are fine for their attention and competence is not enough.

Mingle more often.

It doesn’t have to be in person.

It can be the occasional phone call or video session or meeting in the hall.

No matter what, you have to mingle.
