Workday and PDFs
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
- Resume Parsing Failures: Workday’s Applicant Tracking System (ATS) frequently struggles to parse complex PDF layouts, often misreading data fields.
- Upload Errors: Users report “Your document wasn’t uploaded” or “The PDF file could not be loaded” errors, sometimes even when files are under the size limit.
- Formatting Issues: Generated PDF documents can have formatting glitches, such as removed lines or unreadable text, especially if the PDF uses complex formatting.
- Use Word (.docx): Many users find that uploading resumes as Word documents instead of PDFs significantly reduces errors and mapping issues.
- Use Standard Formats: Avoid complex, multi-column resumes or heavily designed templates, as these confuse the parser.
- Check File Size: Ensure the PDF is not too large.
- Use Plain PDF: If you must use PDF, use a simple text-based PDF rather than one with scanned images or heavy graphics.
