Friday I received an offer at $15k less than their max budget (only $5k above their minimum).

When I pointed this out to them they told me that the top range is reserved for more experienced talent.

I can’t help but feel a little offended by this and a bit perturbed that they don’t mind having an employee in their office that is AWARE that he left $15k at the table.

I think this is foreshadowing of an organization that is bit out of touch and doesn’t see the proven correlation between compensation and engagement.

I’m going to counter at $5k more firm. If they don’t budge I’m going to walk.

    Thoughts?

Look for my video, “The Easiest Way to Negotiate a Higher Salary for Yourself.” Also, you can ask them to explain, “What makes a more experienced talent to them?” and start responding to that. The first is easier AND you should go for $7500 more and drop from there if needed. After all, you aren’t asking for the full 15K. After all, they may be being truthful . . .and, obviously they think you can do the job.
