Most of the time, we are dealing with incomplete information.

It is delivered through the filter of someone’s opinion, often without the self-awareness that they are using a filter.

Thus, they deliver a pronouncement of “truth” without sharing what it is they eliminated to draw that conclusion.

This can be true in politics, as well as in professional environments.

What’s most important is to learn the other information – – that which is not said, not just what has been said – – to then re-explore the problem and see if you come to the same conclusion.

It is the height of respect for the other person to inquire what they have not shared before leaping to the conclusion that they offer.

Is the height of respect for the other person to engage in a discussion and see if you draw the same conclusion as they.

Even when they share some of the additional information, always follow-up by asking, “Is there more?”

There always is.

There always is even when they say, “No, that’s it,” or words to that effect.

Although most of the ice cream is on top of the cone, there’s always a low bit more in it.

Just because we see a certain amount of the iceberg above the water doesn’t mean that there isn’t anything below the water.

Always remember that there’s always something unsaid that helps them come to that conclusion.
