When you start a job search, eventually, you will get to the point where you will be quitting, resigning, giving notice, however you describe it. Then, they may start to play on your emotions.
At the beginning of your job search, it's important to write down the reasons why you want to change jobs. Why? Because at the end of your job search, when you give your notice, your existing employer may come back at you and go, "but why we love you? You're so important to us! Don't go! What's it gonna take? What's it going to take to stay?" And their first reaction is about money. But there are other reasons why you wanted to leave. Maybe it was the work, maybe it was the treatment you received, but they're going to try and pay you off to stay. Unless you remember the reasons why you wanted to go, you may fall prey to it as so many others have. And the problem is you'll have lost the opportunity that was there in front of you that was so good only to stay at a firm that lied to you. Don't fall for it.
