Today, we're going to talk about what happens when a firm such as few on the web, what will the find? What will they see? I’ll use myself as an example.

If someone googles my name, Jeff Altman, they're not just going to simply see me. They're going to see a comedian by the same name. They our going to say and investment banker who I am obviously not related to and they are also going to turn up some from results from me.

Now, if someone goes in extra layer and types in “ Jeff Altman recruiter,” they're going to see a lot of articles that I've written. They are going to see my YouTube channel. They are going to see pages I have with brandu and a couple of other things on page one. There are news articles and videos on page 2 . . . There is stuff I want people to see, you know about me. For some of you with pretty common names, you think this is no issue because no one's ever going to find you that way.

But, #1 is you want them to find you. You want them to use the web to locate people and to find you based upon your skills. So, let's say you're a Java developer or someone nose that you work for a particular firm and adds that to your name in Google. What are they going to find about you? What's gonna turn up and is it going to be helpful 2 and organization? Are they going to like what they see? It is or is it could be problematic? A story from some years ago.

This goes back quite a ways and I was relatively new with the of the technology. I remember a client of mine asked me to find a trader for them. I submitted a resume of a guy who looked like he fit with they wanted to higher to a T. My client called me up afterwards, after I submitted the resume and says, “he looks really interesting. Then, I Googled his background and I found that he had a lot of trading losses. We don't want him anywhere near a proprietary trading systems.

So just recognize that firms are using this information that they find online to screen you in or screen you out. It’s not just simply based upon, shall we say, some of your Facebook stupidity, but based upon professional information that they can find about you that's going to cause them to either think, “This guy can really help me,” or go, “this woman could be a problem.”
