EP 978 Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter suggest the best way he’s found to be happy in his job.
I want to talk with you about being happier at work and what you can do to be happier. Most of the time, when I'm working with people, the coming to be the time where there to satisfy with their work environment. I'll asked them, "what are you doing to try and change things?" I'm not to go there this time. I'll simply say that is a very simple philosophy about how to be happier at work. That philosophy is… Do your best. Every day. Given the circumstances that you, do your best. Put in your best effort, time and time again. What I found for myself... Let me give you an example. I don't my own firms that I've work for people. At the last firm I consulted to, it was a tough timidity environment. People were not nice to one another, management, I want to say that they were incompetent, but they didn't really care as much as they could have. It was a very hands-off management and thus often the inmates ran the asylum. The person who scream the loudest got their way, and everyone else had to accommodate them because management was just too afraid to do anything about bad behavior. Even within the kind of environment where people were cowering in fear of someone and there tantrum (I know it sounds crazy), up. I'll simply say that the best way that I found to cope was to tune out the volume and just do my best, take care of myself, take care of my needs, take care of my clients, be focused on excellence for me and not be worried about extraneous things. Yes, there are things that impacted me, of course. There were times where a defendant my position against lunatics, there were times where for very hard to protect my turf BUT, at the end of the day, the primary strategy that I employed the glut be remarkably successful and very happy was just doing my best day in and day out, minute by minute, focusing in on doing that. That one action change everything for me, as I suspect it will for you.
