Years ago, I allowed myself to get trapped in one of those pointless online conversations that occupied much too much time and mental real estate. Has that ever happened to you?
I decided to extricate myself from the discussion (argument) and said to the other man, “I need to bring this to an end. I need to make space for something else to come in. This is taking too much time.”
Within a week, I met the woman who would become my wife.
I’ve always been a believer that if I’m too busy, I need to remove something from my plate. I start with one thing. Most of the time that’s enough. Something better usually presents itself.
Isn’t there any one thing you can stop doing? Isn’t there any one thing you can stop doing it work? At home?
Make some space.
I know when I usually take things on, usually nothing ever comes off. I keep piling more and more and more on top of one another until I feel overwhelmed.
Make this a good habit for yourself. Start the new year this way.
Put a reminder in your phone to do this once a month.
If you never replace the item you removed, you’ve eliminated one thing that you’ve decided was worth getting rid of and not doing anymore.
You can outsource it to someone else and have them do it. You can just stop doing it.
Whatever you decide, remember this is the least important thing that is on your calendar that you do much too often that takes up too much time.
