Labor Day—which became an official holiday in 1894—marks the unofficial end of summer in the United States. Many Americans choose to celebrate with festivities such as outdoor barbeques. With the first Monday in September right around the corner, let’s take a look at prices for essential barbeque items.
Over the 12 months ended July 2021, consumer prices for uncooked ground beef rose 0.4 percent, compared with an increase of 15.0 percent for the year ended July 2020. Consumer prices for frankfurters decreased 1.4 percent from July 2020 to July 2021, compared with a 15.7-percent increase for the year ended July 2020.
Consumer prices advanced for spices, seasonings, condiments, sauces (0.9 percent), sauces and gravies (0.8 percent), and carbonated drinks (0.6 percent) for the year ended July 2021.
Of course, you can’t cook these delicious hamburgers and hot dogs without a grill; many of which run on gas, specifically propane.
Consumer prices for propane, kerosene, and firewood rose 7.3 percent in February 2021, the largest increase on a monthly basis since February 2014. Following two consecutive monthly decreases, consumer prices for propane, kerosene, and firewood increased 0.6 percent in May 2021, 2.8 percent in June 2021, and 2.5 percent in July 2021.
