I’m seeing a lot on Facebook and it is starting to trickle onto LinkedIn. Not stopping can prove deadly

Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm a career and leadership coach, the head coach for JobSearchCoachingHQ.com. Now, I want to talk with you about one of those stupid LinkedIn mistakes. And I just want to attack it right now before it proves deadly to some of you. And that's the notion of political posts on LinkedIn, no matter what country you're in. And this is, expressed, particularly in the US now, as we're in political season. It's less than a year till the election. And people are starting to get more opinionated online. I know they are on Facebook and I'm seeing it leak out on LinkedIn, as well.

Now, you may think to yourself, "I don't care. I think I'm right about this, and consequences be damned." Well, you can be a big shot right now but the truth of the matter is, you never know who's looking at your posts. You never know who's seeing you and never know whether this is a deadly decision that you've made that costs you an opportunity.

Why would you risk it? Seriously? Why would you want to risk it, risking a job that you've worked for for a while, tried to get, are being so active in the search only to be turned down, because one party or the other says, "I don't want a (fill in the blank supporter) around here." Doesn't matter if it's the right or the left, the fact of the matter is, you're annoying and angering half the population in the US with your opinion and you're not going to get hired because you're a supporter of someone.

So, that's the fact of it. Keep your mouth shut. Don't put your opinions on LinkedIn. What you do on Facebook, they're probably not going to see because they first have to connect with you there. But on LinkedIn, you can see some stuff. And you don't want them to discern what it is that you're doing and risk annoying, and losing that opportunity that you want because you decided to advocate for one candidate or one position or not. And don't think this is just a US phenomena, folks. This goes on all over the world.

I'm Jeff Altman. I hope you found this helpful. I hope this is not you, but if it is, it's time to grow up. That's the way I'm going to put it. You're being childish when you do these kind of things, throwing a tantrum, insisting on having your way, and the world doesn't work that way.

If you're interested in one on one coaching from me, reach out through LinkedIn or through my website, TheBigGameHunter.us. At the site, you'll find thousands of blog posts over 8000 of them now that you can watch listen to or read, that'll help you find work, help you be more effective with your hiring,, a better manager, a better employee. 8000 posts at this point and growing every day.

In addition, I also want to mention one on one coaching is a great way to consolidate some of this information because, the fact is, there's just so much to being effective in a job search and the skills needed to find a job are different than those need to do the job. I can't do what you do, but you can't do what I do as well as I do.

So hire me to coach you. We'll put on a great performance together.

Have a great day and take care.
