Pressure.
In an important moment, some people can deliver in some can’t.
It’s important to challenge people in advance of that moment to see how they deliver.
Otherwise, when everything is on the line and you have to choose someone, you will only rely upon yourself and you may not be the best choice that moment.
Give people the opportunity to excel and deliver when everything isn’t on the line so that when you get to those critical moments you’ll know whether they can.
In sports, in baseball, their players nicknamed Mr. October (Reggie Jackson) and Mr. November (Derek Jeter) who came through and important times during the World Series. Then, there players like Mr. May (Dave Winfield) who put up good numbers early in the season but didn’t when the chips are down.
