What’s up is down and what’s down is up.

We associate such thinking with the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland but is become true of so much of life these days.

No, I’m not talking about politics.

I’m talking about the part of our work life where people demand “out-of-the-box thinking” while talking about a transformational process that puts you in a box.

I’m talking about thinking beyond the rules and creating new rules rather than following hold ones.

Again, I’m not talking about US politics. I’m speaking about the need to think creatively rather than by conforming.

You can’t think about new ones without the old ones. You can build on old to create new but like an operating system that needs a complete rewrite, most organizations need to think about completely rewriting how they approach solutions.

Suggesting that the best way for you to help is by following rules devalues you and what you can offer.

Do you know what you can offer?

Do you remember what it might be?

Think back to when you were young and what your dreams were.

You will find the opening paragraph of your answer.

Write that first paragraph down again and then keep writing.

You may not have the correct answer the first time you write it. That’s why there’s the delete key. You can always rewrite the story.

But if you never sit down to write it . . .
