Repetition | Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

If you repeat something often enough, people will think it’s true.

As a result, you can become a force for good or the opposite.

You can be a force for the meaningless or the meaningful.

I’m not just talking about trivial nonsense at work.

I want to remind you that there are meaningful things that happen at work that deserve to be repeated, that deserve to be shared, that might otherwise go unnoticed.

Noticing others in the things that they do and don’t do and acknowledging them can make a difference the organization and to the person involved.

Standing up to bullies, being an ally to those who are targeted in the office, praising someone’s achievement, whether you’re a leader, a manager or on staff is getting attention to something that needs to be said.

When we are quiet and tolerate the mediocre, we get what we deserve.

When we call attention to that which is praiseworthy, we get more of that.

If we tell ourselves, “Oh, I expected that,” and give it no attention, we get less of it.

The repetition of praise for what people do well will reinforce that you think it is important.
