Playing Big: Objectives | JobSearchTV.com
In this video for Periscope I discuss objectives on your resume and cover letters.
I see way too many resumes that people waste their time with writing objectives. And the simple advice that I have for you is, number one, who cares. Number two is you’re going to talk yourself out of jobs. Here’s what I want you to do. Instead, instead of doing the traditional cover letter, I want you to use the body of your email to demonstrate your fit for the role. Don’t put it on the resume, instead of the objective, use a summary area that’s keyword rich, in order to demonstrate your fit for the role, and to allow your resume to be search engine optimized for your particular skills. Also, instead of using an objective, use summary on LinkedIn, that’s going to be a far more effective place for you to demonstrate a lot of your experiences and perhaps, I have to say perhaps because it really depends on what you do, speak to some of your professional objectives. So again, ditch the objectives. it’s what an amateur does.
