As I sat and listened, I started to wonder how this man I knew to be so energetic outside of work had become so numb to so much at his work life.
It seems criticism of small points over a long period of time coupled with the feeling of how little he did seemed important doubled up to leave him frustrated.
Rather than feel frustrated (I think of frustration as anger that is directed at oneself), he shut down and created a dissociative state of being for himself rather than express his anger or his hurt. After all, anger and hurt are not considered appropriate at work, is it?
Most people start to tolerate these feelings rather than deal with the situation at hand. After all, not only you are unhappy, your manager, boss, whomever is unhappy, too.
Maybe it has to do with you. Maybe it is how THEY are coping with a problem in their life.
No matter what the trigger is, find out what the real problem is and deal with it even if that means looking for another job.
No one needs to feel miserable.
