No BS Career Advice: August 14, 2024
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
I’ll be skipping the next two weeks of No BS Career Advice. We will be on vacation in Vermont visiting with our son. We are celebrating our 25th anniversary with him. He is giving us a gift of staying at the resort he works at. I’ll say more about it at the end of the month.
I didn’t watch much of the Olympics but the few events I saw included incredible moments. Two are from the US Men’s basketball team’s win over an excellent French team. A team of millionaires fought hard to win the gold medal. The joy on the faces of all of them, particularly Steph Curry and LeBron James at winning a gold medal, bowing their heads to have the medal slipped on, and listening to the national anthem reflected pride and joy and I don’t see on many peoples’ faces I work with. They worked together for weeks to achieve and a lifetime before that to earn an invitation to compete.
The second are the coaches standing by and watching with pride as the players were honored. They don’t receive medals. They receive the reward of a job well done.
For those of you who lead, this is a remarkable reminder from Lance Secretan of the Secretan Center about authentic leadership

We are getting close to the US Presidential elections. I want to encourage you to do your homework for what the candidates will try to do if elected. Minimally visit their websites to look for any policy information available.
The one for VP Harrisdoes not appear to have any information on it.
This is the one for former President Trump. It has information on it.
Start asking your local and/or national media to ask candidates how they will do what they say they want to do.
We aren’t voting for pretty pictures. We are voting for our nation’s leaders. Knowing what they will try to do matters, especially about the economy and job market. LinkedIn users have been bearing the brunt of job cuts for more than two years. What will the candidates do to create public policy to help?
I’ll be back soon.
It’s hard finding a job under normal conditions and these aren’t normal.
JobSearch.Community and I will help you remove the embarrassing green ring from your #linkedinprofile picture. Minimally download the free content there.
