I heard this question from Randy Garutti, the CEO of Shake Shack.
The full question goes, “If we’re sitting here a year from now celebrating what a great twelve months it’s been for you in this role, what did we achieve together great?”. It’s a great question because what it involves is the ability to sit down and recognize the strategic vision for the role and to look at the impact that this person wants to have in the culture and the organization.
“Candidates should have enough strategic vision to not only talk about how good the year has been but to answer with an eye toward the bigger picture of understanding the company and why they want to be there. So it’s not just as simple as answering the question about accomplishments. It’s about setting the strategic vision for the organization or for this division, for this department, the impact that you’ve had working together with, in this case, the CEO, to accomplish these milestones, to accomplish this over the course of the year and what you might want to step up to do next as things progress.
So, I think it’s a wonderful question. I think it’s one worth being mentally prepared for as you go into the final round of interviews
