Hard Work | Career Angles

“The secret I learned a long time ago is, you just can’t be afraid of hard work. You can’t worry about long hours. You can’t worry about how hard it all might seem. Put in the time, put in the effort, put in the sweat equity and there will be a payoff. There will absolutely be a payoff.”

~Kenny Atkinson, former Coach, Brooklyn Nets

The truth is what we have been told about hard work is wrong.

There are many people who work hard and don’t amount to a hill of beans for many reasons.

The work on the wrong things.

They do the wrong things.

They think they know better what to do.

There notion is completely wrong.

No one knows what they’re doing.

No one cares about what they’re doing.

You can be working on many things that no one cares about. Worse yet, your notion of what people should care about doesn’t give what they think about they should care about.

You see the notion that only hard work is necessary negates the importance of using your brains to ensure that you work on the right things.

The notion that you can work on something for 10,000 hours to become an expert is incomplete. It’s 10,000 hours of deliberate practice is the full expression of what’s needed.

That can be 20 hours a week for 50 weeks.

It has to be purposeful and deliberate practice. Otherwise, all your hard work is going into slop.
