Let me be honest. When I worked in recruiting, what I cared about most was the deal and the fee. My corporate clients paid me to find people who they hired and then worked for them for some period, after which, a large check was delivered to me. After a few early years when I listened to my boss and did things I am not proud of, I changed gears and worked ethically and honestly to try to help people find work trying hard not to succumb to the temptation of “the fee.” Mostly, I won that battle. I am embarrassed to admit that many times, I didn’t.
It is only when I stuck to my values and principles of honesty and service to others that I discovered the truth in something Zig Ziglar said so many times.
“You can get everything you want out of life if you help enough other people get what they want out of life.”
If you don’t show up as you are, you are never delivering the goods and have too many excuses for why you never get what you want. In addition, if you focus solely on yourself, you will never obtain the feelings of achievement and purpose many you aspire to.
