In our modern culture, attention is given to people I can only discuss as disguised infants.

The predators.

The “train wrecks”

The outrageous.

The outlandish.

The people who are solid, people who try hard, generally succeed but make mistakes rarely garner any attention.

It’s easy to think screwing up is a pathway to success because media makes it seems that way. Yet ordinary people like you and I do wonderful things in silence.

I believe we need affirmation, too.

When you have done something simple and decent, take your spouse to dinner, sacrifice time, do a good day’s work, I want to encourage you to take a moment and say to yourself,

“This is what men do.”

“This is what women do.”

You deserve the blessing. The more you recognize it in yourself. The more you can recognize it in others and commend them.
