Cost per hire

David Allen writes, “You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.”

The choices you make professionally will define you in other people’s eyes. Accepting assignments that don’t really suit you . . . That you begrudgingly accept . . . That you wind up doing halfheartedly because you “have to,” does not show you at your best. They show you like a good soldier going off to be killed in battle.

No soldier wants to die in combat.

No employee should ever take on an assignment halfheartedly.

You may do a great job but it won’t be your best job. You always want people to see you at your best and this won’t be it.

This is the time for pushback rather than give back.

Being great requires that you focus on the work. It’s hard to do that when your mind is pleading that it doesn’t want to do it.

You may be able to do everything, but you’re not able to do everything “world-class.”

Choose work that will allow you to be world-class, not half-assed.
