You cheapen yourself with mediocrity in every area of your life. You let the joy slowly drain from your system with every instance where you tolerate things you shouldn’t.
I am certainly not telling you to ignore red lights and paying taxes.
I am saying that in circumstances where you have listened, observed and tolerated mediocrity or (excuse my language) half-assed behavior, decisions or behavior, you suffer, too.
A coaching client dealt with a situation with a subordinate who was both ineffective and insubordinate by never returning calls or attended meeting that were set up with my client. What work was turned in was judged mediocre.
The person challenged their review and my client was strongly encouraged to capitulate in an effort to allow the person to transfer out of his group. Begrudgingly, he agreed against his better judgement. No sooner does he agree than a former subordinate who has been asks for his review from almost 3 months previously to be reviewed and overturned.
All because he went along against his better judgement.
Doing the hard thing but the right thing is a time saver and allows you to standout as being principled and not swaying in the breeze.
Who you present yourself as being in every instance goes a long way toward helping you succeed. As a former corporate client once told me, “We try to do something right one time rather than trying to fix and amend and correct repeatedly.
