There is often a difference between how people can perform when they are younger, middle-aged and older. Culturally, in the US, we advantage those younger as though their emerging gifts are superior to those older. Let me offer two performances for your consideration.

Joni Mitchell performing “Both Sides Now” as a young woman is beautiful.

And, now, Joni Mitchell performing the same song as a 78-year-old woman whose voice has changed with time but even more powerful (IMO) singing it as a song of reminiscence.

Notice the musicians when they appear. So moved. Noticed the singers who try to join and realize, at best, they can complement the performance.

It is a wonderful reminder for all of us of the beauty each of us no matter where where we are in our lives and the reminder to listen. Listen to those younger, to those older and those in the middle.

Each of has a song.

In a comment I made to a post on LinkedIn, I spoke about how to respond to the question of what you are looking for in the way of salary when you are asked by a Screener. I refer to this as defer and deflect. This is a link to the summary that explains how to do this: https://wp.me/p4aIk1-hlD

Now that you’ve interviewed with everyone that you need to and the screener is coming back to you for the answer to what you are looking for, this is now how to respond.

I have my opinions about why it is as it is. I thought I would share @Marc Miller’s.

Welcome to the Weirdest Job Market and Economy in my Lifetime

July hiring fell 8.3% from a year earlier, but these 3 U.S. sectors kept growing

LinkedIn is reporting that hiring is slowing even though the US BLS reported +528000 for July, 2022. Why the discrepancy?

LinkedIn tilts toward white-collar professionals. The US Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn’t. As a result, the BLS is picking up on part-time jobs and second jobs that often labor is taking to cope with inflation and cuts in hours that they will not include on their LinkedIn profile. In one critique of the data I read, they pointed to over 300000 of the 528000 new positions being part time and second jobs.

In addition, camp counselors are getting paid for their work and showing up in the report.
