4 More Micro-Actions to Create More Job Leads
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been doing a series about micro-actions that can create more job leads. That’s because most professionals treat a job search like an overwhelming second job. They convince themselves that real traction demands marathon sessions–spending evenings rewriting resumes, tweaking cover letters, or mindlessly clicking through job boards.
When you frame the process as a monumental chore, avoidance takes over. Days turn into weeks of zero outreach, and your career stalls out under the weight of good intentions.
That approach is broken. High-leverage career moves aren’t won through exhausting application marathons. They are built through quick, calculated moves executed in the margins of your day.
If you have fifteen minutes between meetings, you have enough time to bypass the public noise, surface unlisted needs, and start direct conversations with people who hold hiring budgets.
Building on our ongoing tactical series, here are four brand-new 15-minute executions to generate high-intent job leads today.
1. Leverage the “Exited Founder / Angel Investor” Sourcing Loop (15 Minutes)
Founders who recently sold a business or transitioned into angel investing maintain direct lines of communication with venture capital partners and early-stage CEOs. Because they are actively evaluating portfolio operations or advising scaling companies, they know which leadership teams have unannounced talent shortages.
Spend 15 minutes searching LinkedIn for operators in your sector who have the term “Angel Investor” or “Former Founder” in their headline.
Filter by your target geographic area or functional domain, and send a concise, peer-level note:
“Hi [Name], I saw your transition into advising/investing following your exit from [Previous Company]. I’m currently mapping out my next leadership move within the [Specialization] space and evaluating high-growth teams in [Industry]. Given your pulse on active portfolios, I’d welcome a brief connection to stay on your radar as scaling opportunities emerge.”
In 15 minutes, you’ll plug into an investor-level intelligence network that hears about executive openings months before an HR requisition is written.
2. Execute a “SaaS Competitor Tool Migration” Scan (15 Minutes)
When enterprise companies migrate from one major software ecosystem to another (e.g., switching from Salesforce to HubSpot, or moving from legacy data centers to AWS), department leads experience intense operational friction. They desperately need hands-on operators who have already navigated that specific technical or procedural cutover.
Spend 15 minutes searching LinkedIn posts for phrases like: “[Target Company]” + “migrating to” OR “switching to” OR “implementing [Tool Name]”.
Identify the project manager, director, or VP leading the migration, and send a direct validation note:
“I noticed your team is currently executing a migration over to [New Platform]. Having led a similar cutover at my last firm, I know how easily reporting pipelines stall during phase two if the legacy schema isn’t mapped early. I put together a 1-page risk checklist on how we protected our data integrity during that shift. Let me know if you’d like me to pass it over.”

3. Deploy the “Podcast Guest Speaker” Direct Line (10 Minutes)
While reaching out to C-suite executives via cold InMails often yields low response rates, contacting executives who recently appeared as podcast guests offers an immediate conversational anchor.
Spend 10 minutes searching Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or Listen Notes for recent episodes featuring VPs or Directors at your target companies.
Skip listening to the entire recording. Simply read the episode transcript or detailed show notes to extract one specific quote or strategic viewpoint they shared. Send them a direct message:
“Caught your guest appearance on [Podcast Name], [Name]. Your point regarding the friction of scaling localized logistics in Q3 was spot-on. As an operator who built in that exact environment at [Past Company], it was refreshing to hear that framework explained so clearly. Looking forward to following your team’s expansion at [Target Company].”
This signals high professional literacy, flatters the executive’s public presence, and establishes an immediate peer relationship.
4. Optimize Profile “Skill Endorsement Re-Ordering” (5 Minutes)
Recruiter search algorithms rely heavily on structured backend data fields. If your top three displayed skills are legacy frameworks from five years ago, your profile match score drops inside automated recruiter talent pulls.
Spend 5 minutes executing a backend skills recalibration:
• Open your LinkedIn Skills section and audit your top three pinned competencies.
-
Unpin outdated or overly generic terms (e.g., “Microsoft Office” or “Public Speaking”).
-
Pin the exact, high-intent technical phrases that match current job postings for your target level (e.g., “Revenue Operations,” “Cross-Functional Team Leadership,” or “Cloud Architecture”).
This quick adjustment re-weights your profile syntax, driving immediate gains in recruiter search appearances without needing a complete profile rewrite.
The Bottom Line
You don’t need to sacrifice entire weekends to build momentum in your job search. Pick one surgical 15-minute micro-action every morning, execute it cleanly, and let the compound effect force the market to bring opportunities directly to you.
