What Does an Applicant Tracking System Look for?

An ATS is pattern recognition software. Most look for recency and frequency. Recent experience is defined as being earlier in the resume. Frequency means multiple uses of the exact keywords in the resume. They want to see the key terms multiple times earlier in your resume. Use the exact language from the ad or job description. The systems usually are not programmed for synonyms.
