1. You need to figure out how to cut the line to get to the front and not just apply to jobs. Social proof, recommendations, your connections will get you in the door. You have to deliver once you get in to meet with someone. This leads to
2. You must rehearse/practice for interviews. Since ageism is real, you can’t give anyone a reason to reject you AND you need a coach or job search buddy to critique both your answers and performance. It’s not just what you say that matters. It’s how you perform as an actor and answer questions that will give you a chance of being hired.
3. Organizations are flatter and need fewer people to manage If you can be a hybrid between managing and doing or leading and managing you have more of a chance.
4. Your network is aging out of the workplace. Network with people who used to work for you, not just with peers.
5. Your job search will take longer than you think it will. Do capital conservation NOW before you create too much pressure on yourself. What would you do if you were out of work by the middle of next year? Make those changes NOW.
6. Create a side gig for yourself. It generates income, and it may lead to full-time work for yourself.
