Trust

Promise-keeping is an essential pre-condition for trust and one of the cornerstones of chemistry. Not until a sustained pattern of promise-keeping has been established can sacred relationships grow. Not only does promise-keeping lead to new standards of decency and civility, but it has another important advantage — it is efficient. When we keep our promises we can eliminate many promises, and procedures and controls because we trust one another. What if we could scrap the controls because we knew we were utterly reliable when we made commitments and could be counted on to keep the promises we made and to own our mistakes? Do you earn trust?

There are many beautiful words and ideas in this card — promise-keeping, sacred relationships, civility. I kept coming back to sacred relationships.
Sacred: connected with God (or the gods) or dedicated to a religious purpose and deserving veneration.
Veneration: great respect; reverence
Reverence: deep respect for someone or something.
I often do things too fast, without paying attention to what the meaning is of what I am doing.
I forget that there is a person on the other end of the camera who trusts me to help them — which I do. Sometimes, I have moments where I forget to treat someone who has trusted me as our having a sacred relationship.
I help, without a doubt, but there is an extra layer to our work together when I remember that our relationship is sacred.
When I forget, I am trying to “get something done” or “accomplished.”
For me, accomplishing something is satisfying but superficial. ]
It does not “warm my soul.”
It is a meal with empty calories that makes me want to crave more.
Coming back to the idea of today’s card, Trust, it asks, do you earn trust?
The answer, unfortunately, has been, “No.” I have the knowledge, but the extra part of this is emotional. I have not fostered the relationships that make others in my professional life feel the same as those in my personal life feel.
