How do you decide circumstances are too much to bear?

Is it when you are at a boiling point?

Too late.

Is it when you are doing things that are intolerable?

Too late. Your leadership doesn’t understand or care about you and your thoughts any more.

Is it when you think about leaving work each day because it has become drudgery?

Maybe.

In my past, I worked at search firms and tolerated things that were awful. I won’t go into detail about what I put up with. I put up with things because there was a greater purpose . . .

Like the adoption of our son

Like the purchase of our house

Like sorting through a previous marriage.

I suffered and made choices because that is what men do. That is what women do.

We sometimes tolerate things for the benefit of others and make a compromise.

We know we suffer because “the controlling powers” believe they own us and act from that belief.

But I left each of those crazy situations and surprised those people.

When should you start planning your escape?

When you start to ask yourself the question?
