Taking a Step Backward
By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter
I was watching a scene from the play, “A Chorus Line,” where one of the dancers, Cassie, is questioned why she is willing to take a job in the chorus when she had been a lead previously and a show stopper before. She talks about needing the job and that she may not have been as good as she was being told before.
When people interview, companies are reluctant to hire people who are taking a step backward in their careers, but once on board, have no compunction about keeping them in the same job forever or taking the step backward.
Guard against their complacency (and yours). If you allow their carefree nature with your career to become yours, you are being careless and committing professional malpractice.
