People Notice

People Notice

By Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter

“Every breath you take
Every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I’ll be watching you”

                              ~The Police

Fortunately, people in the workplace rarely stalk one another as this song offers in this romantic (dis)entanglement. But they notice things, just like they do in your personal life.

Before we get into gender stereotyping of women notice a woman wearing the same outfit, men notice things about other men and women.

They notice your clothing has become a little (or a lot) worn.

They notice when you misspeak or accidentally or intentionally insult a co-worker.

They notice when you miss a meeting or take a longer than average lunch hour.

On both sides of this, are you being you at your best when you do this? I don’t think so.
