I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. A question how do you choose between a new
job offer when you're . . . I'm sorry . . . yeah, it does say new job offer. It should say two job offers
when your current company decides to match it. Great question. It really is.
It's one of the hardest ones that people have to contend with. Now, the thing to
remember is there's a reason you started looking for work. Were those
circumstances resolved with a matched offer or there are other factors that
occurred. I'm also going to remind you that the new job will also have problems. So,
it's not just as simple as "they didn't fix it."
"These people are wonderful," because that isn't the reality. The other people, the
new people will have problems, too. The other thing to remind yourself of and
this has nothing to do with money, is what's most important to you in the next
job or organization? What do you need to see or hear to believe it's a good
choice and then compare it with the existing one. After all, if you leave,
you're walking into something new. You have an opportunity to start fresh. If
you stay, there's also the possibility, I can't say with certainty that It would occur,
the possibility that you'll carry baggage and that you put a gun to their
head and threatened them with leaving.. And when they match it, The now you're left
and at times, let's say there's a new project or a new position that opens up
and they have a choice between you and the loyal person. Yeah that happens. So,
just be aware there's an impact from the decision that You may not calculate in
and a lot of factors that you weigh, starting off with asking yourself about
what's important to you in the job or organization in your career, what you're
striving for and then weigh the differences between the two so that you
can start resolving the confusion and the fear of making a mistake.
