The story of the dam failures in Michigan will include how the dam operator failed to take precautions to prevent what happened from happening. It should also include the story about their effort to try to make change and how a government agency interfered with it in order to protect wildlife. Both took the risks the result in the dam failures that Michiganders in that area are experiencing.

The story of Covid-19 will probably include how no one in China really believed that this thing could be as dangerous as it was. Thus, they took the calculated risks that resulted in the pandemic that we have.

No one expects the worst to happen the when you delay taking action. Sometimes, the delay doesn’t cause a problem . . . And then there are the other times like these.

The hard thing to realize is that there are unanticipated impacts from not taking action be so deadly.

No one wants to be uncomfortable but sometimes you have to be in order to change history.

Sometimes the tactic of kicking the can down the road is doomed to failure.

When nations don’t confront hazards, others learn that they can get away with something and won’t be stopped. That is the lesson of World War II.

When businesses don’t adapt, they can be wiped out by a tidal wave of change. That’s the lesson from Kodak and Polaroid and the wave of digital photography.

Confronting change can keep your department or your job relevant.

Sometimes caution is the right way to do it.

Sometimes caution is not the best way to do it.

You know the situation that you’re in now.

Which way is it?

Taking action or kicking the can down the road and procrastinating some more?

Can you be sure the dam won’t break?

Can you be sure that everything that you’ve worked for will be destroyed?
