Today were going to look at her to search engine optimize your LinkedIn profile.

When we think of search engine optimization, most of us tend to think of Google.  That's not what I'm talking about here.  It really is for you about being found on LinkedIn.  You see, LinkedIn has its own algorithms.  If you are in major cities, if you are regions of the country, unless you are found early on (by early on, I mean if you are the 1st couple of pages of results), people will never find you.  People will locate you.

Let me give you an example.  New York. Project manager.  How many tens of thousands of project managers do you think there are other?  Even if you start to narrow it down by particular skills, unless someone is doing a longtail keyword search (by that I mean lots of different keywords as part of the search) they will find you.

Here is what you have to do in order to start optimizing your profile.

In the tagline area under the name think in terms of keywords. There.
In your current job title, think of a title as a keyword.  Is it a title that people will find?  1 of the ways to know is when LinkedIn starts seeing you type will they offer up suggestions?  Choose 1 of those if you can.  Same with your previous title.
The skills area.  Were your friends, people you know professionally are providing a quick endorsement of skills, don't go for extraneous things.  You have 50 possible options, go to the core and make sure you get lots of endorsements for skills that relate to your work.  The more, the merrier. But, again, think keywords
