I was brought up with the idea of instant success even though, as I watched my father, he was grinding. He work for small business in the Bronx Terminal Market in New York. He started as a bookkeeper commuting an hour and ½ each way to work. Eventually, when the firm was ready to go bankrupt, he took it over from the owners, assuming all their debt, with a partner paid off all the creditors, started a new business and eventually sold both and was able to retire in his 80s.
Glamour goes to the overnight successes. We’ve all heard the statement, “it took me 15 years to become an overnight success.” We hear the person laugh but hang on the words “overnight success.”
Grinding was a big part of my father’s success as it is for all these people that are glamorized.
They made great decisions.
They failed.
Sometimes they did both at the same time.
As you aspire to climb the ladder of professional success, there are rungs on the ladder that you need to step on to get to where you want to go to and be successful.
The rungs require grinding.
If the latter is and put up against the wall securely, it will topple over.
Start with your secure base and start grinding from there.
