I was trying a trial of premium features of a piece of web-based software. I was offered a month free and, after less than a week, it went away. I’m sure it will be reinstated but that doesn’t help me in my immediate circumstances. The explanations will be polite, I’m sure. That doesn’t help me now.
If you don’t follow-up on something, you disappoint the other person.
If you don’t keep your word, you disappoint the other person.
If you’re late or leave early, you disappoint another person.
There are many explanations that you can offer and, as adults, we are very good at rationalizing why we issue disappointment or accept disappointment.
The explanations and rationalizations don’t matter.
We are disappointed and our trust is lessened.
Just like a parent disappoints a child when they promise to do something and don’t, we feel that childhood disappointment all over again and wonder what will happen again.
Although we say to the contrary, we don’t believe you anymore until you can prove to us, proved to me that that was an exception. Otherwise, I know it is the rule.
