I was working with a leadership team recently. A geographically dispersed team who have been running in their business before they could walk.
It should be no surprise that they had trouble communicating with one another. They were all immersed in what they do and had forgotten to talk to one another and remind themselves of the fact they cared about one another
Sometimes in leadership at work, the same things happen. People get so wound up in the minutiae that they forget about the forest from the trees. They are so focused in on the immediate and winning that they forget to remember that they care for the success of the project, they work, the firm so much and that its success matters to them.
As a manager, periodic huddles to confirm what everyone sees they are doing well, where they need help and what they can do better (always starting with the successes) goes a long way toward harmonious environments.
Does it guarantee no one will quit? Of course, not. Better opportunities will present themselves and always attract people.
