Freedom to speak in many organizations is a myth.
I am not speaking about politics. I’m talking about different ideas and what the cultural norm is.
You may be told, “we invite your thoughts,” but you learn from the behavior and what is tolerated that that is a lie.
There is no reason to be a martyr.
There is no reason to tolerate misconduct.
After all when you were an island in an ocean, eventually the waves will win, right?
You have a choice.
You can be unpopular by disagreeing or by calling out the incongruent behavior of others.
You can be unpopular with yourself by tolerating others conduct in keeping your mouth shut.
You can leave.
I’m sure that there are variations of all three, however, no matter which option you exercise, you will be exercising energy that could be best served in doing what you are hired to do.
The choice is yours.
I don’t know your circumstances and whether you really need this job. If so, you know which option you have to exercise.
However, the hard thing is that you could never find out in advance what the culture is like when disagreeing with someone else or with the group, overall. After all, if you ask question about that, it suggests that you are disagreeable and get into arguments with people.
Whatever you do, hold your head up and learn from the experience.
