People spend a lot of time trying to climb the ladder.
Too often, they find that they’ve climbed the ladder on the wrong house.
You need to periodically review what your own goals are and what excites you at work.
You been on the conveyor belt of your career for a long time.
There is nothing wrong about stepping off that conveyor belt and surveying the landscape a bit.
To be clear, I’m not talking about quitting your job to do this.
I’m speaking about objectively evaluating the work that you do and the environment that you do it in instead of just slogging along.
I belong to different organizations where every three months you would gather and decide whether or not to recommit for another three months.
Recommitment was an individual choice. We didn’t want to lose anyone but understood that each of us made an individual choice. That individual choice needed to serve us first and then the group.
You can do the same thing.
It doesn’t mean that you can’t change your mind again and again.
It doesn’t mean that you can pause and reassess and see what needs to happen next for you professionally.
