Things matter.
What you do matters.
Your habits matter.
People notice what you do and don’t do. More importantly, you do. After all, when you don’t commit to doing your best, there’s a pretty quick progression from putting in 99% effort down to 20%.
Yes, there are days when you’re off. Everyone has them.
When days become weeks and weeks become months, you turn into “the deadwood” organizations can cut down immediately.
Like fires in California were dead brush is allowed to remain, you, too, may be tolerated until you aren’t.
Continuing to care deeply, continuing to expand the effort, may not mean anything to your company, to your manager or to your boss’s boss.
It will matter to you and that should mean something, particularly, to you.
It’s an indication of your character and that should be enough.
