A summary of the report. You can read the full report here.
ADP National Employment Report (released November 5, 2025) showed private-sector employment increased by 42,000 jobs in October. Annual pay was up 4.5% year-over-year for job-stayers and 6.7% for job-changers. This marks the first positive employment gain since July, following losses in August (-3,000) and September (-29,000).
Key industry breakdowns:
-
Education/health services and trade/transportation/utilities led job gains.
-
Leisure and hospitality lost 6,000 jobs, raising concerns ahead of the holiday season.
-
Manufacturing shed 3,000 jobs while construction added 5,000.
-
Most new positions (33,000) came from service sectors; goods-producing sectors added 9,000 jobs.
Trend highlights from previous months:
-
September: -29,000 jobs
-
August: -3,000 jobs
-
July: +104,000 jobs
-
June: -23,000 jobs
-
May: +29,000 jobs
-
April: +60,000 jobs
-
March: +147,000 jobs
-
Payroll gains are significantly softer compared to one year ago (October 2024: +221,000 jobs), showing an 81% decline year-over-year. Pay growth has remained flat for the past year, indicating a more balanced supply-and-demand dynamic in the labor market.
Summary:
October’s ADP report reflects a modest jobs rebound, reversing two months of declines but still trailing the stronger hiring seen in early 2025 and 2024. Pay increases remain steady, but job growth lags previous trends and points to cautious optimism heading into the holiday season.
