I feel down after I’ve applied for 15 jobs that I have experience in over the past week and had no replies so far. How do I improve my employability rate?
I feel down after I’ve applied for 15 jobs I have experience in over the past week and have had no replies so far. How do I improve my employability rate? I have no idea what an employability rate is. I would think in terms of a response rate, because that’s really what I suspect you’re looking for, is a response rate. And the answer to that’s really very simple: make the fit obvious to them using their terms, not yours, that may be synonymous with theirs.
Because once I’m seeing that you’ve applied, you’re going through an applicant tracking system, and the system doesn’t want to see synonyms because no one takes the time for them to program them to recognize synonyms. They want to see identical terms generally within one page down and preferably higher. So that will allow you to get noticed by the applicant tracking system, get passed through.
And no, do not use that stupid thing from TikTok about the white print on your resume. It doesn’t work. If anything, many systems reject people who try that little prank of white type of the keywords from the job description. So don’t pull that nonsense. Some people will be with you in one second. So don’t try that little prank. Very simply, make the fit obvious, as though a six-year-old with ADHD is reading your resume, and do it within one page down so that the system sees it earlier, because it associates earlier with recency rather than stuff on page two, which may be the more recent experience, but it’s not going to pay attention to it, ‘cuz it’s too.
