Microsoft has joined Facebook in announcing that they are or have fired poor performers. In Microsoft’s case, a story reports that some were fired without notice. People were told not to report to work and were locked out of their computers. I could be wrong, but I think this is the second time in the past few years that they have acted to lock people out of their computers.
It is a reason to keep a copy of all of your performance reviews at home to protect yourself from being slandered at the time you are laid off. After all, a company can make this statement and now everyone thinks you were a poor performer.
Have proof at home that you weren’t and consult an employment lawyer. After all, the world will think you were a bad employee and not want to interview you, let alone hire you. In addition, demand outplacement services for at least 6 months (preferably 1 year) to be able to ride out the bad publicity that may interfere with you finding a job.
