How to Get More Interviews: Ditch the Objective
One of the best ways to get more job interviews is by joining professional associations or trade groups within your existing field or desired field. And I want to be clear: I don’t think you should freeload in there. You should be doing stuff to get active and get known. Volunteer for the group. Yes, that’s time and effort, right? You’re absolutely right about that.
But what happens is as people get to know, like, trust, and respect you, things start landing in your lap. Opportunities land in your lap, and the result winds up being it’s a lot easier to get interviews, to be contacted about opportunities. And I have to say, this isn’t just about your job search now; this is about your career overall. By getting involved with these organizations, you’ll find that people get to know, like, trust, and respect you, and they’ll reach out to you for opportunities.
