I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm a coach who works with people during job changes, helping them with hiring, managing people, being more effective in the workplace. And I'm continuing my series about why you got turned down because people are turned down for many, many reasons.

And this is the one that's always hard to hear. And that's you got beaten out by somebody. That person may have been coupled . . . comparable to you and willing to work for less. That person could have been better than you and was going for more money. It could have been (the dreaded internal candidate." Youare up against someone internally. Ooh!

Internal candidates don't always win these jobs. Fundamentally, there's a problem with internal people, and that is why are they interviewing from the outside when they could have just promoted this person internally. They know this person;; they know what they're capable of. All they had to do was give this person a promotion. But they're talking to you, too.

So, there's the opportunity to win. But, in this particular instance, why you got turned down, the internal candidate beat you. Being beaten is no shame. However, being beaten because you didn't deliver during the interview, that's a problem, because it tells me you had inadequate preparation.

You couldn't talk well enough about what you did and how it would help solve their problem. You priced yourself out of the market. Fundamentally, you did a bad job.

When all is said and done, being beaten doesn't have to be a problem but being beaten when you're not prepared is . . . you have to fix that. Now, when I do interview coaching, I work one on one to get people ready for interviews and I help you prepare answers. So, if you're interested in one on one coaching from me, you can schedule it either through my website, which is TheBigGameHunter.us or by connecting with me on LinkedIn at linkedin.com/in/TheBigGameHunter. Once connected, message that you're interested in coaching. Will set up time for a free discovery call.

While you're at my website, I've got a lot of information there in my blog, thousands of posts that you could watch, listen to a read that will help you, but they're not necessarily customized for you and that's what I do in my coaching.

And, you know, again, you can watch my stuff there. You can do it on YouTube by going to JobSearchTV.com. You can listen to my podcast, No BS jJob Search Advice Radio, which is the number one podcast in Apple podcasts for job search-- more episodes than anyone else by far.

Hope you have a great day and take care!
