There are quite a few different reasons why a company might ask this. Let me walk you through the ones I would expect it to be.
why would a company ask if I'd ever replied to them before
I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm a coach come who helps people professionally in a
number of different ways and this question is one that doesn't come up
very often but here's what it signals to me and I don't know what the answer is
for this one I just want to start with that sometimes they found a resume in
their system that kind of looks like yours but it's different maybe it's one
that you submitted five years before and
there's a job under current resume that isn't there that's one possibility or
the dates are a little off. That's one possibility. Another possibility is
you've applied for multiple positions
and they're just trying to find out and there's a curiosity factor there's also
the possibility that you had applied directly and a recruiter said oh no you
have to see them from me. They never submitted anything to your firm!
She has never applied before!" And they're just try to check this out because
recruiters sometimes, shall we say, lie or don't know the truth and they are risking
losing a fee. Whatever it is,
the simplest way to answer this is I don't recall if I've ever applied I know
in this job cycle I haven't applied unless, perhaps, you've advertised without
your corporate name on it. See, this way, if you have applied and, like I said, you can
deflect the question and sound sincere again there's lots of possibilities
including recruiter nonsense where they have a corporate policy that
says if you've ever applied previously we don't have to pay a fee nothing that
really relates to you unless you've lied.. I'm Jeff Altman. Hope you found this
