Why are employers so concerned about gaps in my resume?
I'm Jeff Altman, The Big Game Hunter. I'm a coach who helps people professionally in a variety of different ways.
And today, I've got my job search hat on or a job
searching hat on. It says coach, but I'm here to help you with your job search.
And thus, folks, the reason is simple and you've got to put yourself in the employer side of this.
They hire someone to do a job.
You leave after a short period of time. They've got to do this all over again.
They don't find that a lot of fun. They're out there kissing frogs. There are a lot of frogs in the pond
They're talking to a lot of people. They've got to interview a lot of people.
And then they've got to do the training all over again.
In addition, they're looking for reasons to rule people out.
When you change jobs frequently without explaining why you've changed jobs frequently
in a way that makes them understand that it wasn't you, It was the employers,
then they're left to believe that you don't care about your job and that you're just
going to walk out when the first time there's difficulty That shows up.
So, for example, if you tend to be the person with the bad job history.
They worry.
They worry that they're hiring someone else's headache, who's always been fired
and that they're gonna have to do this repeatedly and worse
You don't care about your work.
From your side. It doesn't seem like a big deal. on their side,
they hate to train. they hate to go all through this stuff over and over again.
They just want to get someone hired who's willing to stay and does. I'm Jeff
