why is it bad to tell an interviewer
that you're looking for a different job
in order to get paid more
after a good interview i had when i said
this she changed her tone abruptly
and ended the interview
i'm making a mental note not to be
honest in the future
now from an employer's perspective
when they see
uh let's see now oh scott i'm glad
you're there scott you're on linkedin
it's working thank you very much i
appreciate your messaging
so what employers
determine when they when you're late
i'm sorry
when you just say that
you're changing jobs for the money they
get a message that you're going to
change jobs again for the money while
you work for them even if that isn't
true
but that's what they think
and the result winds up being that
they think that
um
someone's gonna offer you a thousand
dollars more 500 more whatever the
amount is you're going to head for
another organization
so the result of that winds up being you
send a message to them that they don't
like they like to see loyalty
and unfortunately
you know employers are as loyal to you
as
marriage partners are in this in the
united states fifty percent of marriage
is in the divorce
uh so
they wind up doing things that cause
people to leave money being one factor
you don't want to throw that in their
faces
because as you discovered on this
interview
they don't like it
so
don't give them the money reason even
though that may be the primary one
um you know you can say to them you know
there are a variety of factors coming
into play you know i'm not happy with
the work that i'm doing because i've
been doing it for the last few years and
nothing's really changed i want to do
something new
i like the team team is great i also
like to get paid more because the
market's changing they're not providing
any raises so
you can say things like that but it's
not emphasizing the money as it seems as
though you did
