    Most companies I’ve worked at will only do an extended contract with all new folks, and hire extremely stingily. It used to be 3 months, now I’ve heard numbers upwards of 3 years.
    I understand that companies have budgets for salary plus benefits, but what’s not understood is that if contract rates are so far apart from employee salaries, that means that employers are recruiting from the H1-B pool. And that is an issue with most larger cities.
    The contractors I know that understand this dynamic are flocking to state and federal contracts(because they pay well), or cut out the middleman and go IC.

      Maurice, you are mistaken about employee pricing. They work insurance coverage, vacation, sick and personal days into the equation. For contractors, unless you work, you aren’t paid. For employees, they are PLUS there is matching FICA, unemployment insurance. You may think of that as H-1b rates. Your prerogative AND these things do cost them.
