There’s a job interview question that people ask.
If You Could Have Dinner with 3 Famous People, Living or Dead, Who Would You Have Dinner With and Why?
When I teach people to answer this question, I remind them is that what the question is about — what inspires you? Who inspires you? What is it about them that touches you deeply and makes them stand out in your mind?
In an interview, many people freeze up because they don’t think in terms of inspiration anymore. Over the course of time and years, they have lost their spirit and heart and if turned into human machines that do things. They have gone through “transformation,” which has left them processed, homogenized, and stuffed into a casing as though they were sausage.
The image may be disgusting but the reality is even worse.
Worse yet, the question suggests that the power is outside of you to feel inspired. It also causes them to forget that they can be inspiring to other people.
I like to ask the question, “Who do you inspire?” Who is it that you affect that makes a difference in someone else’s life?
There are obvious places such as with a child, someone who you mentor or coach, people in a community that you’re involved with.
Sometimes, we forget that we affect others and how meaningful our impact is upon them.
Checking in with ourselves and avoiding the mistake of succumbing to our being “industrialized,” and help us lead to more in the world. For some of you, this may be hard to hear.
The world needs what you have to offer.
